The experience of New Horison leadership team spans many years and the team has developed a reputation for executing projects effectively and getting the job done. Leadership, from our perspective, is about influence and servanthood and we prefer a team approach where everyone is aligned and working within their passions. Currently, New Horison, employ over 20 people at 6 Sites spanning the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, as well as Gauteng. Our administrative hub serving the companies both administratively and financially is based in East London. Our satellite offices where we implement our projects are situated in Duncan Village, Great Kei, Aliwal North, Bizana, Delft (Cape Town) and Dobsonville (Gauteng). Over 300 people are being reached through the 4 projects
On a day to day basis the team is managed by the executive team comprised of Gcobisa Nomtshongwana, Bonga Nduna, and Phumeza Ceshemba.New Horison is geared to building sustainable enterprises and projects. We promote a paradigm where; instead of people and communities relying on donors or sponsors for sustenance, they work on jobs where revenue is created and they ultimately develop their own income, becoming self-reliant. The aim is to break the cycle of poverty. The impact of this project sees dignity and a sense of purpose restored to those participating in our programme. People are given a work experience, not only changing their economic outlook but changing the family life at home as bread-winners are better able to provide for those they love.
The IDC has established the Post Unrest Business Recovery Fund to address the urgent need to assist companies and entities affected by the unrest and looting which occurred in July 2021 to protect the critical jobs and industrial capacity of South Africa.
New Horison was recently funded by IDC under the Post Unrest Business Recovery Fund to assist informal businesses that approached them in the Dobsonville area. The SIP did an excellent job setting up the businesses better than they were before, confirming the building better emphasis of the IDC. The traders who were operating on open unhygienic self-made structures received new infrastructures, stock and counselling. Due to this achievement, the councilors around the Soweto areas approached them to assist more traders in the other side of Dobsonville, Meadowlands and Jabulani areas in Soweto.
New Horison has a good track record of working with informal traders and micro-businesses and the IDC has approved further grant funding to the SIP to provide funding to businesses in the Dobsonville, Meadowlands and Jabulani areas in Soweto which were affected by the recent unrest. This funding is expected to reach an additional 80 informal traders and micro-businesses and save approximately 240 jobs.
